Spring Bank Holiday Events in the Lakes 2016

If you’re lucky enough to be coming to the Lakes this weekend, then you are spoilt for choice when finding things to do. Here’s a highlight of just a few of those things.

Celebrate Keswick Market on Saturday the 28th May. In celebration of 740 years of Keswick Market (the market charter was granted in 1276 by Edward 1st) by taking part in the Pirate Parade. There are stilt-walkers, face painting, singing, competitions and booty bags for Pirates and Princesses. Keswick Market is held in the main square in Keswick.


From the 28th to 30th May Threlkeld Quarry Museum are displaying two working steam locomotives. The Loco’s will be carrying passengers over the Bank Holiday Weekend on the Threlkeld Quarry railway line.

One Sunday, 29th May there is a Felltop Café on the summit of Latrigg near Keswick. Latrigg is a smaller fell just outside of Keswick which offers great views over Keswick and down to Borrowdale. The Rotary Club of Bassenthwaite is providing a Sunday Brunch of hot bacon or Cumberland sausage rolls, cakes and hot drinks. The event runs from 10.30am until 3.30pm with all profits going to charities supported by the Rotary Club of Bassenthwaite.


Also on Sunday and lasting for two days is Muncaster Festival hosted at Muncaster Castle. Here you will find entertainment for the whole family. Attractions include a Jesters’ Tournament, Archery, Ukulele Workshops, Clip ‘n’ Climb and Bouncy Castles. There’s music, a food court and bar too! Find Muncaster Castle at CA18 1RD.
